PILIBHIT: The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has given its nod to set up the state’s first organic winery in Bareilly, taking the total number of wineries in UP to two.
In September last year, the government approved the state’s first winery in Muzaffarnagar. The second licence has been issued to a Bareilly-based company — Godson Organic Farm Private Limited. As per the company’s managing director, Anil Kumar Sawhney, his unit will use “only organic fruits, herbs, flowers and vegetables for the fermentation of wine”. Sawney added, “My winery is also set to lay a new milestone by fixing the export-oriented targets. The Indian wine has so far failed in earmarking any place for it on the global platform due to being crumby in quality, but my samples of wine, prepared manually, have widely been recognized in many foreign countries, including France and Italy. Based on my refined quality, I have sought many verbal commitments from foreign importers for the supply of my wine. In that way, this unit will be exalted as the country’s first industry of its kind.”
