President Draupadi Murmu said on 2 November 2022 that with 70 percent of Nagaland’s farming practices still traditional and organic, the North East region has the potential to become the country’s organic food basket.
“Nagaland has a lot to offer when it comes to agriculture and agricultural products. Indeed, the entire North East has the potential to become the country’s organic food basket. Nagaland’s good quality agri-food and horticultural products are in high demand in the markets. I am glad to know that Naga tree tomato, Naga cucumber and Naga Mircha are GI labeled,” Murmu said in his speech at a civic reception in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.
