Farmers in Tamil Nadu, through Tamil Nadu Iyarkai Uzhavar Kootiyakkam (TNIUK), have urged political parties to prioritize organic agriculture in their election manifestos, proposing the creation of an Organic Farmers Welfare Board and a plan to convert 25% of the State’s farmland to organic cultivation by 2030. They called for incentives of ₹24,000 per acre, restrictions on genetically modified crops, and allocation of at least 25% of government food procurement to organic produce for PDS, ICDS, and school meal programs. Additional recommendations include traditional seed centers, district-level processing facilities, dedicated organic markets, an organic export policy, awareness programs, and an organic agriculture university to promote sustainable farming.
