A new scheme in Wales, the Planet Card, helps low-income residents buy organic fruit and vegetables by providing £11 a week to spend at local farmers’ markets. Developed through the Bridging the Gap programme, it was designed with farmers, dietitians, and community groups to suit real-life needs. After a successful pilot, it expanded to 120 participants and has improved diets, confidence in cooking, and connections to local producers. A national report found the scheme creates strong social value and could be scaled up with future Welsh Government support for organic farming.
