BERHAMPUR: Organic turmeric of Kandhamal district has won the National Intellectual Property (NIP) Award for 2021-22, presented by the ministry of commerce and industry. Sources said it was adjudged as the most popular geographical indications (GI) product under agriculture.
The winner was selected through an online voting system, conducted by the department for promotion of industry and internal trade under the commerce ministry. Union minister for commerce and industry Piyush Goyal presented the award at a function in New Delhi recently.
“Though we have not received any official communication from the ministry of the commerce about the award, but we came to know from other sources and social media,” said Mihir Samantaray, deputy director of horticulture.
