Himachal Pradesh has launched India’s first state-supported biochar project by setting up high-tech microwave pyrolysis plants in Hamirpur to convert hazardous pine needles and invasive weeds into stable carbon. The initiative targets 50,000 hectares of farmland and compensates local rural collectors at ₹2.50 per kg to reduce seasonal forest fire risks while generating vital rural employment.
