Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said chemical fertilisers are a major cause of many diseases and strongly advocated natural farming, claiming it boosts farmers’ income by at least 1.5 times while saving water and improving public health. Addressing a farmers’ conference, he said the government is building a complete system—from soil testing and certification to packaging and export—to help farmers access the global market.Shah noted that over 40 lakh farmers have already adopted natural farming, adding that dung and urine from one indigenous cow can help cultivate up to 21 acres. He also said more than 400 laboratories will soon certify natural farming produce, which could significantly raise farmers’ income, especially benefiting small farmers.
